How the Ford Raptor Inspired the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Grille

Did you know that the TRD Pro grille is actually inspired by the original Ford Raptor grille? That’s right, the iconic “orange LEDs” look of the TRD Pro grille is actually a nod to the Raptor’s legendary off-road performance and design.

The Ford Raptor was first introduced in 2010, and it quickly became a hit with off-road enthusiasts. One of the things that set the Raptor apart from other trucks was its wide body, which gave it a more aggressive stance and stable off-road handling. To meet DOT regulations, Ford had to add a pair of forward-facing amber lights to the grille because, like a semi truck, the Raptor was over 80 inches wide.

The TRD Pro grille’s orange LEDs are a direct style reference to the amber lights on the Raptor grille. Like the Raptor, the TRD Pro also exceeds 80 inches in width. However, Toyota opted to duplicate Ford’s lighting choice and place the amber lights in the grille instead of on the cab.
